Everton manager Roberto Martinez backed Romelu Lukaku to take Goodisonby storm after watching the Belgium striker inspire a 3-2 victory over West Ham.Leighton Baines may have struck twice with two brilliant free-kicks in the second half, but it was the half-time arrival of debutant Lukaku that transformed Everton into match-winners.
The 20-year-old, on loan fromChelsea until the end of the season, nodded home the 84th-minute winner after replacing Nikica Jelavic.
"The goal is everything that typifies him – the character and desire to want to be successful. That's why he will be such a big asset. He's a very intelligent footballer, his potential is incredible," said Martinez.
The Toffees had equalised twice through Baines, who struck two brilliant free-kicks in front ofEngland coach Roy Hodgson to keep his side in contention.
The second arrived in the 84th minute after Mark Noble was shown a second yellow card after hacking down Ross Barkley from behind.
It was cruel twist to the afternoon for Noble, who shortly before had dispatched a penalty he had won himself after a foul by James McCarthy.
West Ham can at least take comfort from the end of their scoring drought which had lasted 314 minutes until Ravel Morrison fired them ahead after half an hour.
